Founders of Conexant Systems Vancouver Design Centre established Silicomotive Solutions Inc. in July 2002. The Silicomotive’s team is a group of very experienced and talented digital design engineers that has a long and very valuable record of achievements in helping organizations achieve competitive advantages by focusing on time-to-market, effectiveness and design quality.

The team’s strength lies in design and verification of System-on-Chip devices used in optical and wire based networking. Our business revolves around intellectual property implementation and design services for telecommunication and multimedia applications. The key to our success is our experienced design team and our robust design methodology.

Silicomotive business philosophy is to work very closely with our customers as partners in the common goal to deliver the highest quality product in the fastest possible way. For the duration of the project, our team effectively becomes part of our customer’s team to allow for better communication and ultimately faster and better overall execution. Customers will have the highest level of confidence with the feasibility study assessment that we do as a first step in the project. At the completion of the feasibility study, customers and Silicomotive’s teams will have built a clear consensus and implementation plan for the project execution. This major milestone is composed of understanding of architecture, logic and circuit design along with the target process parameters, the resources needed to complete the project on time, budget and according to specifications. Throughout the design process, frequent communication is maintained to report status and resolve issues. We strive to implement the best solution for each customer, utilizing our broad knowledge and experience. Customers retain ownership of their unique product IP and fully own design deliverables from Silicomotive described in each project work order. Clients compensate Silicomotive either on a fixed-price or time-and-materials basis.

Silicomotive’s team experience and competence combined with organisational structure will meet the needs of both small and large businesses that seek to take advantage of the new technologies in order to increase their market share and exploit new business opportunities. Silicomotive offers highly qualified design experience, shortened time-to-market and outstanding quality services at extremely competitive costs. Thanks to Silicomotive Solutions, our customers are provided with a strong competitive advantage.

According to the Semiconductor Industry Association’s (SIA) the outlook for the industry continues to be bright as semiconductors are used more pervasively in an ever-widening variety of applications. In 2003 the semiconductor industry will manufacture about 60 million transistors for every man, woman and child on earth. By 2008, chipmakers will be producing 1 billion transistors or more per year. Outsourcing of complex tasks will have to dominate to support such growth.

The semiconductor industry has a history of outsourcing complicated subtasks. Outsourcing began in the 1960s with mask making, test, and assembly. The trend continued in the 1970s with design-automation tools for electronic manufacturing services. The 1980s saw the emergence of pure-play foundries, and the 1990s began the start of the pure-play silicon IP business. Outsourcing makes sense when the complexity of a task is high relative to the end-product differentiation it provides.
